a. Resume Heading: In your resume heading there must be your name, email, and mobile number. Key Points:

  1. Always put active email id. Check the spelling of the email not to miss communication with the interviewer.
  2.  Put active mobile number. If you have some connectivity issue on one number sometimes, better to put an alternate number.
  3.  Always put the resume heading in the header section of the resume, not the body.

b. Career Objective or Profile Summary: You can put Career Objective or Profile Summary in this section. It helps HR to understand you as a candidate quickly. Key points:

  1. Your goals and objective shall be decided from this section.
  2.  Make a 3-4 line concise and effective career objective.
  3.  If mentioning the Profile summary, do mention primary skills, total experience, or any key point you want to highlight.

c. Education Qualification: This section helps HR to firsthand verify your education details. Key points:

  1. Mention Course name, University, Year of Pass out, and percentage in the education section. (Ignore the percentage if it is very low).
  2. If you have good years of experience, say 8+ years, mention only one liner highest qualification.

d. Primary Skills: This section helps you to get your resume filtered from job portals. Key points:

  1. Put all the primary skills on which you are searching for job in this section.
  2. Try to put bullet points for your primary skills.
  3. Primary skills directly match with keywords used by HR to filter resumes on job portals. So use this section efficiently.

e. Internship/Training / Personal projects: If you are a fresher, it’s always great to mention Internship, training, or personal project details. Key points:

  1. Mention the internship or training you have done if you are a fresher or less experience.
  2.  Mention personal project details if you have a technical background and have less experience.
  3.  Update yourself with Online courses and mention any certification or reputed course done on your resume.

f. Work Experience: This section is very important if you have any experience, and it helps the interviewer to understand if you are suitable for them. Key points:

  1. Mention your experiences in order of current company/project to last company/project.
  2.  Always mention efficient project description 2-3 line max, the technology used if from a technical background, and roles and responsibilities.
  3.  Your roles and responsibilities shall match the experience you have. It can help you in getting a good designation post-selection.

g. Awards/Achievements/ Accomplishments: Mention awards, achievements, and accomplishments if you have something to show that differentiates you from other candidates.

Check Points: How to efficiently use a great resume for a Job Search

  1. Resume file name shall be professional one with resume file name showing at least your name, job field and total experience.
  2. Resume shall have 0 grammatical and spelling mistakes and for all content same font shall be used and for all headings, the same font shall be used. Indentation of headers and contents shall be proper throughout the resume.
  3. If you have experience till 10 years, try to have a resume not exceeding two pages. HR will spend very less time filtering your resume.
  4. Create your profile on all the latest efficient job portals. Complete your profile hundred percent.
  5. Upload your well-written resume on the job portal. Your resume and your profile shall have all keywords related to the area in which you are searching for job.
  6. Update your resume thrice on Job portals every day. (Morning, second half and evening). Change can be very small to update your profile in the job portal database. This will show your profile to HR on top if the keywords match.
  7. Use the ATS Score verification technique if you are applying for a job-on-job portals. It helps to identify if your resume matches the requirements you are applying for by automated resume filtering tools used by companies. People with an ATS score > 75% have reported good results in interview calls.
  8. Network with people in your field using any medium like job specific social networks and don’t hesitate to ask for referral with your resume if it helps.
  9. If you are from technical background and have expertise in coding, mention your achievements on coding websites or hackathons.
  10. Before appearing for Interview go through you resume and all basic questions around it, to be better prepared with your profile.
